My Chiropractic journey started with my mom, in my first year of high school. She had found herself with a stiff, painful neck that just got worse, to the point that she couldn’t even drive herself to work. For what seemed like months she tried one thing after the next, nothing worked. We landed up in a Chiropractor’s office and I had no idea what to expect. What I remember most about that day, was the way home after her treatment. My mom was able to look over her shoulder again and smile at me in the back seat. That’s when I thought to myself, this is something that makes a real difference! Chiropractic was my calling.
After completing 6 years of study, my dissertation and internship, I graduated from the University of Johannesburg in 2015 and went straight into private practice in Bedfordview to help people from all walks of life, from stay at home mums to athletes and desk jockeys alike. I continued learning new treatments to be able to tailor sessions to work for the individual, from hands-on techniques to drop-piece and instrument adjusting for the elderly and those needing a more gentle approach. I also made use of dry-needling and myofascial release for muscle trigger points and dynamic taping for recovery and performance.
Knowing what I know now, I can’t believe how easily avoided my mom’s suffering really was. This has given me a special interest in prevention and led me to complement my chiropractic treatment with ergonomics, functional movement exercise and supporting people to create a balanced lifestyle. Why only get better, when you can be better than you were before?
